Nagoya Subway runs on New Year’s Eve midnight – Not through overnight

Nagoya City Transportation Bureau announced that they will not operate the subway all night, although the last train will be moved behind on December 31, 2020 (Thursday) New Year’s Eve, in consideration of the effects of COVID-19.

Nagoya Municipal Subway has been operated all night from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day every year. However, in consideration of the number of passengers after 2:30 and the influence of COVID-19, the operation will be stopped all night in 2020 and the last train will be moved behind.

After the last regular train on December 31 (Thursday), trains will be operated every 30 minutes on all lines except the Kamiiida Line (Higashiyama Line, Meijo Line, Meiko Line, Tsurumai Line & Sakura-dori Line), and the services will end by around 2:40 on January 1, 2021 (Friday / holiday). The last trains from Jingu Nishi Station (the closest station to Atsuta Jingu shrine) depart around 2:00 that allow transferring to other subway lines, so be careful when you return home.

Nagoya Municipal Subway will be operated on “Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays timetable” from December 29 (Tuesday) to January 3 (Sunday). In addition, only the Higashiyama Line will be operated by the “New Year special timetable” from December 31 (Thursday) to January 3 (Sunday).
